The Velika Gorica cemetery and related sites in continental Croatia
The cemetery of Velika Gorica is situated near the Croatian capital Zagreb. It has been known since the beginning of 20th century when the first publication of V. Hoffiller (1909) appeared. He also published in 1924 an article about the ceramic items from that important cemetery. The first analysis of grave assemblages from Velika Gorica has been done by France Staré in 1957 in Inventaria Archaeologica. This was a basis for Vinski-Gasparini' s detailed analysis in 1973. Since then, no major publication appeared on this important site. In our analysis we have tried to give some new insights into the material of the Velika Gorica cemetery and made some new reconstructions of known grave assemblages that are housed in the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb. The complete catalogue of the finds has been done. This resulted in the detailed analysis of the structure of grave goods and their comparison to related cemetery sites in the region like Krupače, Trešćerovac, Ozalj and, of course, Dobova in today's Republic of Slovenia. The emphasis is on similarities and differences in grave ritual and structure of grave goods.
