ANTHROPOMETRY AND SIZE STANDARDIZATION
The paper provides a short description of anthropology as an important scientific discipline in studying humans and human origin. Anthropometry as a branch of anthropology deals with the measurement of the size, weight, and proportions of the human body. Anthropometric studies are undertaken with the aim of developing and improving garment and footwear size systems. Problems of the standardization of garment sizes as a very important and interesting scientific research topic in Europe and worldwide are described. A series of important information about trends of the development of garment size systems and difficulties in their mutual harmonization due to body differences, sizes and shapes, similarities of human body and standards to define the sizing of clothes for specific markets and to simplify the communication of sizing which will facilitate and improve design and garment manufacture, i.e. clothing culture etc. is provided.
