Small Coalitions in Cognitive Radio Networks
Cognitive radio is viewed as a novel approach for improving the utilization of the radio electromagnetic spectrum. With a growing number of devices operating in such a frequency spectrum, and a dynamic change of available frequencies, an algorithm that achieves fast distribution of these devices across the available frequency is mandatory. To address this problem, we apply the concept of small coalitions to several well known algorithms in game and control theory. Those algorithms can be used in cognitive radio concept to evenly distribute cognitive radio devices across the radio frequency spectrum. We performed extensive simulations of these algorithms and showed that the usage of coalitions provides significant performance improvement at a reasonably small cost due to coalition formation.
