Investigation of structural and other properties of organic molecules using Raman spectroscopy
In our investigations of the structure and vibrations of certain molecules in condensed fase we are often confronted with the problem in unsufficient amount of specimens for qualitative measurements with classical Raman technique. In this work we want to emphasize advantages of micro-Raman spectroscopy as a powerful experimental method in a broad series of applications. This spectroscopic technique, due to the possibility of focusing the exciting radiation on the microcrystals of our samples, enable us to obtain good results in two independent studies with the same difficulty: in the first case we obtained a very small quantity of synthetised perchlorate salt of tetraoxaporphyrin dication, and in the second case we need to identify to the human eye almost invisible product from the photoreaction of azoxybenzene remained after the evaporation of the solvent. We will describe the sample preparation, process of identification and results obtained in Raman measurements with micro-Raman aparatus (Renishaw RM 2000) for tiny crystals of the oxygen analogue of porphyrin and of 2-hydroxyazobenzene.
