OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE CHARACTERIZATION OF VARIOUS EXPOSED WORKPLACE TYPES - DOSIMETRIC CONCEPT USING ACTIVE ELECTRONIC DOSIMETERS
The number of new cabinet x-ray inspection systems installed on the airports raised the question about the radiation protection of security workers and passengers. We have utilized an active electronic dosemeter (AED) for real time measurements of security workers occupational dose. The result is that the working area near the x-ray baggage control units used for hand baggage security scanning on airports is not to be regarded as radiation protection control area nor as area of concern if the workers are obeying the security procedure rules. Similar concept of AED dosimetry was used to monitor the exposure of the staff members performing the percutaneous Interventional Radiology procedure. It is shown that in both cases exposure burdens may be characterized as very low or low dose exposures demonstrating new AED features at both workplaces. We have conducted an extended survey in order to determine controlled area around cabinet X-ray units and inside the IR operating room. In both cases, the recorded dose rate time dependence will be presented and discussed.
