The Clinical Evaluation of Longitudinal Postoperative Monitoring of CYFRA 21-1 Tumor Marker in NSCLC
The serum level of has been longitudinally followed in 274 patients 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months after surgery . The first month after surgery the level of CYFRA21-1 fell down under the cut off value 3.3 ng/ml in all patients. Three months after surgery the mean level was about 1.3 ng/ml. The increase of serum level of CYFRA21-1 was observed six months after surgery in 5 patients (4 males and 1 female), and twelve months after surgery in 11 patients (8 males and 3 females). In this patients control chest radiography we did not find any signs of relapse, but after complete brochoscopy and computed tomographic scan the relapse was confirmed. We can conclude that the tumor marker CYFRA21-1 could be useful in postoperative monitoring of NSCLC, because the increase of its level may be a good way to detect relapse, before other diagnostic procedures.
