Secular changes in middle Dalmatia populations
Within the conduct of population structure studies in Middle Dalmatia we analysed various anthropological variables to find out if there is some differences in their expression. We analysed three different age groups, according to the environmental influences during their adolescence in four populations. On the Adriatic island of Brač, Hvar, Korčula and peninsula Pelješac we analysed 12 variables (height and weight, and some stable and ecosensitive variables), for three population groups in males and in females: between 20 and 25 years, between 40 and 45 years and 60 and 65 years. The variability is higher in population groups aged 60/65 and 40/45 in both males and females. The highest number of statistically significant variability is found in males aged 60/65 for biacrominal breath, antero-posterior chest, and subscapular skinfolds. While in females aged between 40/45 the leg length and abdomen skinfold, and in group aged 20/5 for chest circumference. The results were discussed in terms of environmental, migrational, historical changes and socio-cultural differences on these mostly isolated regions.
