True aneurysm of the antecubital vein
Venous aneurysms are very rare (Lotfi M et al., J Clin Ultrasound 2007 ; 35: 521 – 536). They may develop in all segments of the venous system, the distribution among sexes is equal, and they may occur at any age. A particularly rare location for the venous aneurysm is the upper limb, and only 4 % of all venous aneurysms occur there (Debnath D et al., BMC Surg 2007 ; 14: 7 – 9). Therefore, venous aneurysms of the upper limb may sometimes be misdiagnosed as subcutaneous soft tissue tumors, arterial aneurysms, abscesses, and other conditions. We present a case of an unusual true antecubital venous aneurysm with an overview of imaging modalities used in the diagnostic procedure.
