Metric characteristics of tests for assessing balance in preschool children
This paper primarily deals with the balance as one of the hypothetical latent dimensions of children’s motor abilities. The sample consisted of 229 children (108 boys and 121 girls) 6.5 years old. The metric characteristics of tests for assessing balance were checked. Two tests had satisfactory metric characteristics while the third was slightly worse. The authors believe that it would be justified to introduce certain changes in the construction of the tests and to increase the size of standing area on the boards used for measuring balance. In this way, there would probably be improvements in the metric characteristics of the constructed tests. The results of balance measurements showed that boys had significantly higher values than girls. The authors believe that it would be necessary to continue to explore the area of motor abilities of preschool children, especially balance.
