Effect of rimsulfuron application on weeds in maize inbred lines in Croatia
Rimsulfuron had a good effect on Sorghum halepense, Setaria glauca and Echinochloa crus galli. In comparison with the treatments including atrazine, rimsulfuron controlled 10- 25 cm tall S. halepense plants more effectively. The efficacy of rimsulfuron on S. halepense varied from 80 to 93 %. Rimsulfuron did not always have a satisfactory effect on broad-leaved weeds. Under Croatian conditions rimsulfuron was less effective than expected on the folowing species: Polygonum lapathifolium, Ambrosia artemisiifolia and Abutilon theophrasti. Perennial weeds such as Convolvulus arvensis, Equisetum arvense and Rubus caesius were not controlled. The best overall effect was achieved with herbicides treatments as: metoachlor+atrazine in broadcaste in recommanded dose, rimsulfuron and metolachlor + atrazine in band spraying.
