Upotreba fitoplanktonske vrste Cylindrotheca closterium izolirane iz Malostonskog zaljeva za kondicioniranje brbavice Venus verrucosa

The aim of this study was to determine the growth potential of the monoculture of microalgae Cylindrotheca closterium isolated from the Bay of Mali Ston in the controlled laboratory conditions under different salinities and to evaluate its nutritional value for the shellfish Venus verrucosa during the broodstock conditioning period. Our results showed that Cylindrotheca closterium population grows under a wide spectrum of salinity conditions and reaches the stationary phase faster then commonly used species with similar characteristics. Successful conditioning of Venus verrucosa fed with the optimal combination of flagellates (Isochyisis galbana, Tetraselmis suecia) and diatoms (Cylindrotheca closterium) showed that Cylindrotheca closterium can be successfully used instead of the commonly used diatoms.
