Side launching of ships from horizontal berth by tipping table arrangement
The developed theory of side launching of ships by turning pads on circular slipways as a three dimensional problem is presented. Launching phases, including pad rotation, ship sliding along pads, ship rotation in cradles, as well as ship turning in the pad plane are specified. Based on the dynamic equilibrium of given and generated forces, a system of nonlinear differential equations of motion for each launching phase is derived. The system is solved by the finite difference method and established algorithms are programmed. For illustration, the side launching of a chemical tanker is analyzed.
