Heat and mass transfer analysis at rotary regenerator for use of waste heat from the smoke gases
Heat and mass transfer in the wet rotary regenerator with nonhygroscopic matrix material have been analyzed in this paper. A complete mathematical model has been translated, by means of the finite difference technique, into four algebraic equation systems that are solved by FORTRAN software using an iterative procedure. A numerical analysis has been applied to the rotary regenerative boiler air preheater of the electric power plant Urinj in Rijeka, where heat and mass are transferred between streams of smoke gases and air. With this type of regenerator a condensation of the sulfuric acid vapour appears when the matrix material is cooled below the saturation temperature of the sulfuric acid vapour. Sulfuric acid in condensed form damages the sheet metal of the matrix material very quickly. The results of the numerical analysis are represented as spatial diagrams with gases and matrix temperature distributions, gas humidity distributions and condensate density distributions within the rotary regenerator.
