Numerical procedure for obtaining the gears' addendum modification coefficients based on the sliding friction loss minimum

A geometrical sliding friction loss factor for involute cylindrical gear mesh has been defined. This factor comprises the influence of the magnitude and the shape of the toothing as well as the change of the load during the mesh on the sliding power loss. A computer program has been developed in order to calculate the optimal addendum modification coefficients that give a minimal geometrical sliding friction loss factor i.e. minimal sliding power loss. Theoretical calculations are in good accordance with results obtained by the measurements of friction losses on test rig of power circulating type.
