Haematological values of fallow deer (Dama dama L) population in continental and island Croatia

Haematological parameters were researched in blood samples of fallow deer (Dama dama L9 (9 from the Brijuni archipelago and 8 from continental habitats, Croatia). Blood samples of both sexes were taken due to haematological indices (E-erythrocytes, L-leukocytes, T- trombocytes, Hb-haemoglobin, differential leukocyte count, MCV, HMT, MCH, MCHC, RDW and MPV). In comparison with island females, haematological parameters of island males differonly in a higher level of trombocytes in the latter. Significant differences occured in haematological parameters of the continental population in that females had a higher lčevel of E, Hg and HMT in comparison with males. In comparing these two groups of fallow deer population significant differences in their haematological parameters become obvious in most of them, although not in the nimber of leukocytes. Differential leukocyte count showed obvious eosinophilia in the continental group of fallow deer.
