Experimental modal analysis and structural changes

In this paper, residual force vector is used in order to find structural changes with a focus on location. To implement this method baseline finite element (FE) model for structure in its unchanged state is required. Without updating baseline FE model it is possible to find location of structural change comparing residual force vectors before and after changes occurred. Three model reduction schemes are used to solve difficulties rising from mismatch between degrees of freedoms (DOFs) of the FE model and number of measured degrees of freedom. Numerical and experimental identification of structural change location are showed on free-free beam.
