Cluster Initiatives in the Republic of Croatia
Clusters represent the spatial concentration and integration of economic agents and other stakeholders within individual industries. Using clusters makes it possible to reduce imbalanced regional development, a fact of great importance in light of studies conducted that show entrepreneurial activities in Croatia to be at a relatively low level. The cluster model is, therefore, a new global model of SME development, and its contribution to developing small businesses is of great magnitude especially in countries whose economic measures and programs target the development of small businesses that are increasingly important to the dynamic development and growth of a country’s overall economy. Properly used across various levels of economic activities, this model can have substantial impact on enhancing the competitive ability of Croatia’s entire economy. Considering the great importance that the cluster policy has recently gained throughout the European Union, Croatia should also seek to enhance its innovativeness and competitiveness through its own cluster policy. To this end, an entire array of measures, primarily, initiatives are being implemented or will be implemented to operationalise the established cluster policy.
