Health promotion project evaluation “Menstrual cycle and hygiene”

Background and aims Health promotion project “Menstrual cycle and hygiene” is run in high schools in Croatia for female students by school medicine specialist. Unique methodology consists of lecture, demonstration and oriented discussion about structure and function of female reproductive system and menstrual hygiene. This study obtains data collected in 2008 in order to determine participant’s satisfaction with project. Methods Descriptive analysis of student’s evaluation is carried out on 2359 gymnasium, 3132 for-year, and 898 three-year school education students of 1st grade. Results In gymnasium 49%, in four- year 41% and in three- year school 46% girls find the content as a recapitulation and for 23%, 30% and 27% the content is completely new. For 65% gymnasium, 69% four- year and 64% three- year school students, presented material is very interesting, and 81%, 82% and 80% evaluate it as very beneficial. To 80%, 79% and 77% students, presentation gives answers on interesting questions. Completely satisfied with presentation are 89%, 86%, 85% students. For 42%, 49%, 50% students the most useful in presentation is “everything”. That “nothing” should be changed in presentation answer 85%, 87%, and 92% students and “nothing” should be added to the content answer 59% gymnasium, 58% four-year school and three- year school education students. Conclusions As results shows there is no important difference in answers of students from different type of high schools in project evaluation. Evaluation is used to adjust and improve project content to target population, emphasising preserving of reproductive health.
