IS THERE A NEED FOR ESPECIALLY TRAINED PROFESSIONALS WORKING WITH SCHOOL CHILDREN AND YOUTH?

I find it absolutely needed. Why? a. Every specific health protection of population group demands education of professionals in charge of it. b. School children and youth have specific biological and sociologic characteristics with which physicians, regarding today pre-graduate education, are not sufficiently familiarized. c. In contemporary models of health care school children and youth often have two doctors, one for curative and one for preventive health protection, not just one expert for unification and providing comprehensive health protection. d. Adolescents frequently have multiple problems (problems with education, learning problems, chronic illness, etc), and in solving them they address different professionals and specialists, not having one selected doctor responsible for unification of all procedures and measures. e. In health protection model in which general practitioner provides health protection for school children and youth, he is not recognized by them as doctor who really knows their problems, and who is capable to deal with them in their setting, school or group they belong. f. School children and youth have right that, as for other population groups with special needs, providing health professional have special education. Instead of conclusion Professionals working with school children and youth do not only have a need of special knowledge and skills to provide services to them, but they must be advocates and representatives in dealings with their specific demands and needs.
