Polyurethane (PUR) and poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAC) are partially miscible polymers. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of untreated and stearic acid surface pretreated calcium carbonate (CaCO3) nanofiller on the properties of PUR/PVAC polymer blends. A set of filler mixtures which have diverse values of surface free energy have been prepared by mixing of two commercial nanofillers (U1 – untreated CaCO3 and U1S2 – stearic acid pre-treated CaCO3) in different ratios. Surface properties of PUR, PVAC, U1 and U1S2 have been defined by determination of surface free energy. Adhesion between filler and polymer in the polymer blend, as well as filler position (in regard to the polymer phases) are predicted on the basis of calculated adhesion parameters (interfacial free energy - γ, spreading coefficient – S and work of adhesion – W) and wetting coefficient ωa. Thermal and mechanical properties are determined by DSC and tensile tests.
