The examination of noise and vibrations produced by a test facility for wind turbines
As an integral part of the Laboratory for Renewable Energy Sources, a wind tunnel has been built on the very top of the building of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in Zagreb, Croatia, i.e. on its thirteenth floor. The tunnel itself is made of sheet steel and spans across the whole width of the building. The driving ventilator responsible for creating the airflow required for tests, aided by the tunnel itself and the investigated wind turbine represent a noise source for both the employees working in the building and the residents of nearby buildings. This paper describes the examination of the impact of this noise on the area surrounding the building, as well as on the spaces within the building. Solutions are presented that have been implemented in noise and vibration protection for this particular situation. The calculations of noise and vibration levels in the building were made based on chosen and available materials. Outdoor noise propagation was simulated using LIMA and the simulation was based on topographic data that describes the surrounding area and the data on the noise source itself. Data provided by the suppliers on used materials has been used whenever possible.
