Sažetak
Important physico-chemical differences (mobility, rovibrational levels) exist between molecules of different isotopic composition (“ isotopologues” ). This leads to separation effects in their physical and chemical behaviour (“ fractionation” ) which directly influence the isotopic composition of a substance. Evidently, a measurement of this isotopic composition (usually expressed in terms of the so-called “ ä-value” /1/) can therefore tell us something about the processes acting in the system.
