Calibration of Cutting Force Coefficients in Face Milling
Milling is a commonly used process in manufacturing industry. Reliable prediction of milling forces is significant for the simulation of the machinability, cutter breakage, cutter wear, chatter and surface quality. Therefore, much attentation has been paid to the development of the cutting force model including the calibration of cutting force coefficients.For determination cutting forces are developed many of the matematical models. One of them, called Kienzle equation, is widely used because of simplicity and high accuracy. Conventionally, the cutting force coefficients in Kienzle equation are determined using measured cutting forces in turning. This paper proposes model for calibrating these cutting force coefficients in face milling. Developed model enables high efficiency and accuracy of the obtained results, serial investigations on large number of materials for development of machinability databases and rational usage of laboratory equipment and time and also small expense of the workpiece material and tool inserts.
