Discrete Nonlinear Model of Woven Fabric in Biaxial Tension
A micromechanical model of fabric in plane weave is constructed using discretization of axial and bending resistance of the yarns. The fabric is modeled as an assembly of extensible rods interconnected in nodal joints with elastic resistance to relative rotation representing bending stiffness. For the case of biaxial tensile loading in warp and weft directions, static and geometric equations are written for a basic cell in general deformed configuration. Pronounced nonlinear tensile behavior of the fabric takes place as a consequence of considerable changes of basic cell geometry. Relations among the increments and values of static, geometric and deformation variables are obtained by differentiation of basic equations. Starting from a specified initial state, the nonlinear response is traced incrementally. Computational procedure involves the solution of algebraic equation system for unknown variable increments and update of all variables in each incremental step.
