The compatibility of socio-pedagogical interventions with needs of children and youth with behavioral disorders

This paper aims to analyze the compatibility of the content of socio-pedagogical interventions with the needs of the children and youth with behavioral disturbances. Its basis are the results of the research „ Scientific establishment and development of Social pedagogy in the Republic of Croatia“ . The research was conducted in 2008 on sample of 194 social pedagogues. This analysis included 173 social pedagogues who work with different groups of children and youth on different types of interventions. The basis was the definition stating that socio-pedagogical intervention is professional assistance in the breeding which is, according the existing behavioral disorder and/or risk, conducted through social and pedagogical leading not only children and youth but also social groups and context they belong to. In that sense, this paper will show the interpretation of the basic theoretical and empirical knowledge on the relation of the content of conducted intervention and specific problems in the social functioning of the clients. Special attention will be given to the relation between problems in the social functioning of the children and youth and (a) level of the intervention they are participatin in, (b) the way they are participating and (c) representation of the certain socio-pedagogical contents in the intervention (individual work with the beneficiary, group work, work with the members of the family, education with the persons who are engaged in the breeding of the beneficiary, ect.). In the conclusion, authors will offer their own point of view of the needs and the possibilities of the wider flexibility of the interventions dedicated to this vulnerable social group.
