The regulation of hypertension in the population of managers

Aim was to determine whether the managers used the right hypertensive medication as prescribed by a doctor and whether their condition was well managed. Methods out of the managers treated at our facility, we formed the group of 186 examines with the diagnosed hypertension. We compared them with the control group using the method of joined pairs ( n=186) according to the age, gender and qualification, type of hypertension and treatment period. The control group was formed out of other patients. Tested and physical health-related quality of life ( Coop-Wonca questionairre). Results Both groups filled the survey and were retrospectively examined after 3 year follow up period in order to determine how often they took their anti hypertension medication. We noticed in the studied group that 56 % managers took the prescribed medication on the regular basis, 22% most of the time, 10% only occasionally and 12% stopped taking the medication in spite of their hypertension. Results in the control group showed that 68% took the medication regularly, 24% most of the time, 8% sporadically and 2% stopped taking medication. The statistical significance was of p<0.05. Between groups we found statisticaly differ lisure, Coop-Wonca quality of life summary scare ( p< 0.02). The hypertension was well controlled in the case when the medication were taken regulary so that 67% of the examined manager had the hypertension under control, but even 22% of them had increased blood pressure in the period from 6 up to 12 months within the 3 year follow up period, whereas 81% of the patients in the control group had their hypertension well regulated and 6% had increased blood pressure values in the period from 6 up to 12 months. Conclusion The managers unlike other population have problems regulating their hypertension successfully due to the specific working environment, but their personal opinion and the understanding of the risks play an important role in taking the prescribed medication regularly. Therefore in the studied group of the managers we had a high percentage of the examines with uncontrolled hypertension.
