Optimization of 3-2-1 clamping method in milling operations
In this paper a method of optimization of work piece holders (jigs, fixtures) for milling processes is being presented. Optimal placement is based on the rules for clamping and surface positioning of locators and clamps around the work piece. The objective is to reduce deformations and deflections that are results of wrongly placed clamping and work forces with the use of 3-2-1 clamping method. Optimization is based on the use of genetic algorithm with the method of traveling salesmen which is used to simulate tool path on the work piece. Work piece is simulated with a mesh of points (cities).
