Estimation of bodenstein number and its application for mixing description in horizontal rotating tubular bioreactor
Mixing properties of horizontal rotating tubular bioreactor (HRTB) were investigated by using temperature step method and multisensor measuring system. Mixing investigations were done in a wide range of process conditions [residence time (t_Z = 3600 - 36000 s) and bioreactor rotation speed (n = 0.083 - 0.917 s^-1)]. Dispersion model with Bodenstein number as the model parameter was used for mixing characterisation in HRTB. Due to heat losses (heat transfer through the bioreactor wall to the surrounding air) Bodenstein number was determined by the procedure which used a structured spiral flow model. Obtained Bodenstein numbers were in the range 10 - 17, and the applicability of the standard dispersion model on the HRTB and similar systems was considered.
