Comparison of Numerical and Physical Models for Spillways Transient Flow
The paper gives the list of comparisons of depths and velocities on a spillway section calculated by means of the numerical model and measured on the physical model. The numerical model is based on the methodology of finite volumes, and the physical model was built according to the principle of Froude's similarity in two versions of length scales (18 and 30). Two floor plan configurations of the spillway were analyzed, with constant bottom slope of 25 percent. In the first configuration, lateral vertical walls are parabolic, and in the other wall contour is straight. The analyzed spillway flows were Q = 60, 90, 120 m3/s, which will occur during operation of the hydraulic structure for which the numerical and physical models were made. The comparison of results showed good matching of measured and numerically calculated velocities and levels along the spillway walls and axis, with notable deviation on the ``downstream'' bounary at the point of exit from the spillway chute.
