ICT as Support for Professional Advancement Monitoring at the Faculty of Economics in Osijek

In a highly competitive labour market, high performers quickly rise to the top, but they have to confirm their status on a daily basis. Higher education has become just a foundation for further development of young professionals. The society has been increasingly relying on knowledge, special skills and attitudes. Universities and their constituents need to be quick and adept in responding to market requirements, and turn out graduates who will be ready for continuous training, flexible jobs and a dynamic environment. All this indicates that education institutions should be able to follow up on their 'product', i.e. former students, their professional advancement and overall growth. ICT can play a key role in this as a logistics support, i.e. by improving communication and creating a database of alumni, which provides an overview of their qualities and achievements. Furthermore, the database could include some knowledge workers feedback, thus creating a closer partnership between the corporate world and education, to the benefit of both sides. This paper will present a specially designed and adapted “ KNEX” e-learning system, in particular how it could be applied to create an alumni database, which would trace students' personal development process and their formal and informal advancement in an unpredictable employment market.
