Yield and fruit composition on Istrac training system
Istrac is a new grapevine training system which is developed in a collaboration of the Institute of Agriculture and Tourism from Porec (Croatia) with the Centre of Research in Viticulture from Conegliano (Italy). It is created after many years of researches and experiences with unilateral spur cordon training system, which has some advantages like lower demand of working hours per hectare, the possibility of mechanization of most viticultural practices and obtaining of high yields of good quality, but it have also some disadvantages like the pronounced domination of shoots growing near the junction of the cordon and the trunk and the lower vigor of shoots growing in the middle part of the cordon. When creating Istrac, the aim was to benefit of the advantages of the unilateral spur cordon and to avoid its disadvantages. Istrac is a bilateral spur cordon with slightly inclined and short cordons. First studies conducted on Istrac training system on four year old vines of cvs. Borgonja and Muscat rose of Porec suggest that Istrac have a great potential concerning yield and fruit composition and the ability to use vineyard machinery.
