Parasitic diseases of pheasant in intensive farming in eastern croatia
Current demands impose bigger need for pheasants farming in controlled conditions with a goal of repopulating hunting grounds. Those are good possibilities for much easier development and carry over of different kind of disease. The aim of this research was to monitor parasite diseases during four seasons in one pheasant farm on the East of Croatia. Parasitological exam of intestine, trachea, liver, lungs and faeces (n=60) were conducted from three separate farm parts. Coprological methods used for this purpose were sedimentation and flotation. For statistical analysis we used programs Microsoft EXCEL and SPSS for Windows. Coprological examinations determined parasites eggs of Syngamus trachea, Capillaria spp., Heterakis isolonche, Raillietina, Strongyloides spp. and Eimeria spp. oociste. All adult parasites species were determined during organ examination in intestine and trachea, and no parasite was determined in lungs and liver. Regarding to pheasant cage breeding, we haven’ t found any statistically important difference between cages. Concerning the number of parasites between seasons, we registered a very high statistical important difference. Organ exam shows that there is a highest similarity in presence and abundance of a certain parasite species between autumn and winter period. There is also a similarity between spring and summer period. Samples taken during winter time are at least similar to samples from other seasons, according to presence and abundance of different parasite species. Coprological analysis shows that there is a highest similarity in abundance of specific parasite species, determined between samples taken at autumn and spring period. Beside, there is a similarity between samples taken at autumn and summer period. Samples taken during the winter time are at least similar to samples from all other seasons. In limited areas pheasants live in much higher population comparing to natural environment and that is one reason of high prevalence of parasitic diseases.
