Small and Family hotels - the challenge of Croatian Entrepreneurship
Croatia is traditionally a tourist-oriented country. Small family hotels present the most wanted tourist product with a continuous growth of turnover and consumption per guest. Today in Croatia, there are 296 small hotels with 13.683 beds. Compared to the number of beds in large hotels, small hotels make only about 13, 5% of the total offer. What is the actual economic status of Croatian small family hotels? Which are development problems and prospects of development for these hotels? Our goal is to give answers to these questions in this paper, which is based on the hypothesis that the future and success of the small family hotels rests on the quality and the individual service that provides friendly and warm family atmosphere, and development of needed infrastructure. The empirical research carried out in 100 Croatian small and family hotels will deny or confirm this hypothesis.
