The paper explores crosslinguistic variation in the domain of central spatial prepositions between English and Croatian. The issue is analysed from the perspective of cognitive linguistics, which is proposed as a useful tool for addressing a number of EFL topics, including prepositions, phrasal verbs, the tense timeline, metaphor, idioms, cultural models and motivated explanations of exceptions.
