Electrostatic Analysis of Pressure Condenser Microphone by use of Finite Element Method

Condenser microphones are known by a very low level of nonlinear distortions. This property caused their wide application as measuring microphones. Nonuniform deflection of microphone membrane causes nonlinearities between membrane deflection and induced voltage. Extremely high levels of sound pressure forces significant deflections of membrane, and due to complex shape of this deflection harmonic distortion of the microphone rises. This paper presents analysis of induced microphone voltage based on numerical determination of change of capacitance. This determination is carried by the finite element method (FEM). Proposed method is applicable not only to fundamental mode of vibration but also to higher order modes.
