Basic acpects of psychodermatology
A psychodermatologic disorder is a condition that involves an interaction between the mind and the skin. In many dermatologic disorders, psychological factors (stress, emotional distress stc.) may have an influence on the course of the disease. That category is often called psycho-physiologic disorders and they include: psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, alopecia, eczema and acne. On the other hand some dermatological diseases, due to their visibility and influence on the appearance, may result in different psychological problems. Anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and social isolation are among common consequences of the dermatological disease.
