Model Calculation and NMR Measurements as Important Supplements to Precipitation Experiments of Amorphous Aluminosilicates

In the present paper we present a work in progress, discussing problems with which we were faced when studying amorphous alumino-silicates at predominance of Al, at equal concentrations of Al and Si (10 mmol) and at predominance of Si in the presence of phtalate ion in solution. Computer calculations of predominance area diagrams using SOLGASWATER program from Eriksson (1979) were performed using binary, ternary complexes and phases reported by Hedlund et al. (1988) and by Bilinski et al. (1990 ; 2000). Information about numerous solids formed in such a complicated system can not be obtained with certainty only by computer calculation. Supplementary data were performed on the composition of solid phases, using chemical analysis and NMR spectra. Chemical analysis showed increasing amount of Na and decreasing ratio of Al/Si (2.17, 1.13, 0.51). From 27Al and 29Si NMR measurements Al/Si ratio was different (1, 1, 0.37-0.40). The difference from chemical analysis was explained that "extra" Al atoms are not connected to SiO4 network. Higher Si/Al ratio observed by NMR (=lower Al/Si) was explained that not all Al-atoms are attached to the SiO4 framework. Computer calculations show that there is a lack of knowledge in a part of equlibrium mode, when silicate is in excess over aluminium.
