Energy Efficient Sensor based Control of a Greenhouse
Sensor based automatic control is an intrinsic part of any present day modern greenhouses. The function of the climate control takes care of maintaining a protected environment despite fluctuations in the external weather, and it acts as a program memory, which can be operated by the grower as a tool to steer his cultivation. However, as opposed to the popular notion that the green house climate control is an expensive technology to implement, this paper will identify and demonstrate realization of a control system using inexpensive offthe-shelf equipments through a scaled down model. This work focuses on development of a demonstrative test bed to implement the control algorithms. Energy and irrigation costs are one of the main production costs to operate a greenhouse. The layout of the measurement and control system will be addressed. In this paper we will also present future directions on design of advanced controllers for dynamical greenhouse model. Implementation recommendations and results on industry-like test beds are rarely published in the research literature. In this paper we offer a complete procedure, which addresses the above issues. The procedure described in this paper allows one to achieve disturbance attenuation and control with prescribed performance at the same time.
