Possibilities of Public Transport Interoperability with Calypso Technology
Most of the urban and suburban population use every day public transport. But every city has its own tickets system, and that diversity complicates the lives of citizens. That is the reason why the standardisation of access and payment is an important asset when addressing sustainable development for public transport. Therefore the standardization of the system is the first step to interoperability. The real needs for interoperability exist on local, national and international level. The main objective of interoperable fare management is to make public transport more user-friendly by facilitating seamless accessibility to different public transport networks. Technical standard of Calypso contactless smart ticketing technology offers a time proven and operational interoperability at all requires interoperability levels: a common technical platform, a same ticketing application and a common fare management. Based on tight specifications and standards, Calypso provides all technical requirements able to enhance urban mobility systems, requiring a multi-application management in an interoperable environment. The paper presents Calypso technology in the function of achieved transport interoperability including experiences with the TRIANGLE project as a Calypso concept solution for interoperability on international level.
