Lyme disease in Croatia
Lyme disease is a multisystem infectious disease caused by arthropod-borne spirochetes of the Borrelia (B. burgdorferi sensu lato complex. It is the most common tick-borne disease in Europe and North America. It affects both sexes and all age groups- Since 2003. Laboratory for Serodiagnosis and immunofluorescence diagnosis was appointed as Reference Center of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of the Republic of Croatia for the diagnosis od syphilis and Lyme disease. Maince goal of the Centre in to encourage cooperation between dermatovenereologists, infectologists and microbiologists to provide early diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease as well as to educate population about modes of prevention from tick bites, as well as about proceedures needed after tick-bite.
