Sign Languange in Croatian Health Care System

Among basic rules of bioetics are relations „ doctor-patient“ and mutual influences among their languages and cultural identities. It's patient's right as well as doctor's obligation to avoid presence of the third person involved in their relation. It's quite important and helpful because of mutual confidence, as well as for the recovery of deaf patient. Students of the University of Rijeka School of Medicine got the opportunity of choosing the elective course „ How to Communicate (with the deaf)?“ . The aim of this course is to create mutual trust and confidence between doctor and patient, senzibilization of future medical and non-medical hospital personnel to understand better what means the Deaf in social and cultural kontext, primarly when the Deaf become patients in medical system. Sign language, with written sign behind, is the most common language among deaf people and makes easier communication of medical terms. Terminology glossary of all major medical terms is made in interaction of Sign Language Instructor (educator), medical students and deaf people. We will show way of education of Sign Language with students of the University of Rijeka School of Medicine.
