Sažetak
Training of helicopter external load operations is important for the pilot and crew readiness to deal with real-world situations like aerial firefighting, search-and-rescue operations after natural disasters and accidents, delivery of humanitarian supplies to the afflicted areas etc. Training of external load operations places additional simulation and visualization requirements in comparison with typical helicopter flight simulation, resulting from the external load dynamics and a variety of external load scenarios. Examples of the additional requirements include training of external load operations over various terrain surfaces, confined areas, during different times of day and environmental conditions, as well as pilot-crew communication and distance estimation in the visualized synthetic environment. For realistic simulation of external load it is necessary to analyse dynamics of the load, which is coupled with the dynamics of the helicopter. Differential equations describing the motion of the helicopter and external load should be integrated in parallel taking into consideration the constraints of the cable connection. Similar to the dynamics model of the helicopter, it is necessary to determine aerodynamic characteristics of the external load of interest, as well as the characteristics of the cable. Achieving realistic simulation of helicopter flight over the wildland fire requires taking into account the fire influence on the atmosphere conditions. For accurate simulation of the firefighter mission with external water bucket, the problem of dynamic behaviour of liquid has to be considered.
