Recent advances and trends in infrared biotelemetry
Recent advances in the development of infrared biotelemetry systems for monitoring stationary and ambulatory subjects in clinical and experimental studies are surveyed. The systems are characterized in terms of application, link design and directivity of radiation. Examples of portable monitors for stationary patients, ambulatory patient worn transmitters, implanted (transcutaneous) transceivers and animal experimental systems are presented. The obtained results give information on the status and trends in application of the new technology . That application has profiled during the past decade making infrared complementary to radio media and thus giving new quality to wireless biomedical systems.
