Influence of enhanced level organic selenium on weaned piglets health

The investigation involved two groups of weaned piglets(N=40), crossbreed (LWxSL) x Pietrein, the same sex proportions, aged 28 to 70 days. Both groups were fed on fodder mixture for weaned piglets in two phases. The control group (C) was supplemented with 0.4 ppm organic Se in yeast (Sel-Plex® , Alltech Inc® ). The experimental group (E) was supplemented with 0.7 ppm organic Se in yeast (Sel-Plex, Alltech Inc.). Body weight was controled on the weaning day, the 21st and the 42nd day after weaning.Piglets from the E group achieved higher body mass (C: E: 21.54:24.03 kg) and significantly better total gain from 28th to 70th day of life (C:E: 13.29: 16.10 kg). Feed conversion was better in the experimental group (C:E: 1.79:1.84 kg).
