THE FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE VIBRATIONS DURING PREPARATION OF PROSTHETIC DEVICES
Continuous work during tasks which allow exposure to vibration lead to some specific health problems to dentists as well as dental technicians, and they are correlated with the period of the exposure. The aim of this study was to measure and compare some parameters connected with vibration, which may influence health of the dentists and dental technicians. The vibration produced by conventional handpiece with different type of burs made of different materials at different speed has been measured during preparation of various materials for prosthetic replacements. The vibrations were measured by accelerometer mounted on the conventional handpiece and at the different points of the examiner. The device consisted of piezosensor, amplifier, filter and DAT recording system. Recorded signals were analyzed using personal computer and software SpectraLAB and the results were compared with the accepted International standards. The most important factors that influence acceleration of vibrations are: a point of measurement, the speed rotation, and the material used for prosthetic restorations and the type of a bur, in this order. The results point out that acceleration values were within accepted International standards, although the vibration values at the speed of 40000 rotations per minute were at the upper limit of the mentioned standards. Spectrographic analyses of vibrations revealed that the speed rotation determines the frequency of the peak amplitude values, no matter of the point of the measurement, the type of a drilling instrument or type of the material used for prosthetic restorations. Considering the well-known diseases caused by vibration in dentists and dental technicians the recommendation is to warn the persons handling with such equipment against possible consequences with the aim to prevent them.
