Appropriate education for people and health providers has always been the key issue in the mission of the Andrija Štampar School of Public Health, School of Medicine, University of Zagreb. Since the beginnings in 1927, the School has been recognized as the leading institution in postgraduate education for health and a unique institution in Croatia, in the former Yugoslavia and in the South-Eastern Europe. At present, there are many factors influencing postgraduate education at the Andrija Stampar School of Public Health. Some are related to the long tradition and past experiences, the others are linked with the changing conditions and challenges in health and social policies and healthcare systems reform. All are related to the changes in higher education in Europe, based on the Bologna Declaration and European trends towards alignment of higher education qualifications. Strengths and weaknesses for change are presented.
