(Cross)border Cartographic Imaginery of Early Modern Times
Presentation elaborates perception and appropriation of the Croatian frontiers as represented on the early modern maps. Lines and areals on territorial contacts and along long-lasting multiple borderlines of the Habsburg Monarchy, the Venetian Republic and the Ottoman Empire, especially along the line of "Antemurale Christianitatis” represent complex cartographic imaginary. Such a historical construct communicates ideological motives, from proto-national identity search to political propaganda. Mental mapping of early modern spaces generated visual constructs and transfered ideas by subjective and highly speculative set of symbolic cartographic information. Complex space was appropriated within the distinct frameworks, even trialectics (real, imaginary and combination of these two kinds) of spaces.
