The Complexity of Information Systems
The paper describes the most important methods for measuring and estimating the complexity of information systems. The majority of existing methods measures complexity of software product. The paper illustrates various measuring and estimation methods of IS complexity. The questions is whether by measuring the complexity of designing an information system, the complexity of software product and the whole project of information system development can be estimated and predicted? Can this be estimated even before the beginning of the design? A simple method called DOD exists ; it can be used for a quick and exact estimation of the complexity of IS development projects, as well as software product. A quick and exact estimation of IS project complexity facilitates the definition of basic factors during information system design, these being the cost and time needed for the design. The paper outlines a set of methods.
