Protective effect of HI-6 and new oxime BM-1 in soman intoxication
Recently, it has been shown that the new oxime derivative of quinuclidinium and imidazolium (BM-1) used with atropine can counteract the effect of soman in mice intoxicated with 4.0 LD 50 doses of this poison (all treated animals survive). For these reasons it seemed to be interesting to study the efficiency of combined application of the usual oxime HI-6 together with BM-1 (1/4 LD 50 of each oxime/kg bw) and atropine (10 mg/kg bw). These oximes were applied intraperitoneally to male mice before and after subcutaneous intoxication with 2.0 to 6.4 LD 50 of soman. The pretreatment with BM-1 10' after soman protects all treated animals treated with 5.0 LD 50 of soman. The best effect was obtained when HI-6 was given together with atropine 10' before and 10 ' after soman intoxication. This schedule of treatment resulted with survival of all animals treated with 6.4 LD 50 of soman. These results suggest that so far HI-6 with atropine or BM-1 with atropine are the most efficient when applied before and after intoxication with soman.
