Using biomass for producing biogas
Republic of Croatia cannot fulfil its power requirements and therefore it is compelled to import oil and electric power. Meanwhile, there are some unexploited potentials for power production. It is high time to turn our attention to the alternative power resources such as solar energy, hydro-energy, and power exploitable residues of the agricultural production. One of the alternative resources is a biogas production by anaerobic decomposition of the organic waste. Well-functioning system for biogas production displays a wide range of advantages for its consumers, society, and environment. Methane is made by organic matter decomposition and released into the atmosphere it causes the greenhouse effect of the higher level than CO2. Each year 590-880 million tons of methane is released into the atmosphere by microbiological activity. Approximately 90% of the methane emitted derives from the biogenic resources. Utilization of biomass remains from sugar-beet production could produce 3905 m3 of biogas per ha.
